Open Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science moves to Underlay

Underlay

The Open Encyclopedia of Cognitive Science (OECS), published by the MIT Press, has migrated to Underlay and launched a new website built on its structured knowledge collection.

The OECS team wanted better search and more effective ways to present and explore its growing collection of peer-reviewed encyclopedia entries. Rather than rebuilding the publication as another standalone platform, we moved its content into Underlay, where articles and metadata are stored as structured, versioned records.

Once that foundation was in place, building the new site took weeks instead of months. The result is a more flexible reading and discovery experience, with improved search, browsable collections, and new ways to explore connections between entries.

This is the approach we’re bringing to more of our work: keep the knowledge structured, portable, and durable, and make the tools built around it easier to create, improve, and replace as communities’ needs evolve.
