Jeff Pooley Joins the Knowledge Futures Board of Directors

Mar 12, 2026

We’re happy to share that Jeff Pooley has joined the Knowledge Futures Board of Directors, effective March 10, 2026.

Jeff is a research associate and lecturer at the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania, where he teaches and writes on social media, scholarly communication, media theory, and the history of communication research. He co-directs mediastudies.press, a nonprofit, scholar-led, open-access publisher in communication and media studies, built on PubPub. He co-founded MediArXiv (the open archive for media and communication studies), co-edits History of Media Studies and History of Social Science, and serves as a consultant to the Annenberg School’s Library Archives. Jeff holds a B.A. from Harvard University and a Ph.D. in communication from Columbia University.

Jeff has been part of the Knowledge Futures community for a long time. He runs mediastudies.press on PubPub, was a KF Fellow in years past, and knows the organization well, both technically and culturally. Running a nonprofit publication on our infrastructure gives him a perspective on our tools that very few people have. That experience, combined with his work across open-access publishing and scholarly communication, makes him a great fit for our board.

We’re glad to have him at the table as we keep building.
